We are searching for a person who has the perfect combination of bookishness, social media savvy, and marketing skills. This is a part time position of about 20 hours per week. The hourly compensation is $20 to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
The position opens for training in December and begins in January. Ideally, the publicist would work from our head office in Saskatoon. Remote work from elsewhere in Saskatchewan or another province could be a possibility for the right candidate.

Job description:
-Collaborate and maintain relationships with authors on publicity campaigns
-Collaborate with Managing Editor and Acquisitions Editor on publicity goals and promotional content
-In consultation with the management group, maintain a regular schedule of content creation and engagement on all platforms by generating original content and also by using themes, ideas, or content provided by management
-Leverage the interest of special audiences and book groups
-Research book marketing opportunities on each platform
-Work to promote, publicize, and sell Thistledown books and authors on each platform
-Use social media to convey the company’s goals and community interests
-Maintain and monitor social media accounts regularly, according to company ethos and branding, using a consistent visual style
-Ensure content is lively, engaging, attractive, correct, and current
-Run contests, giveaways, or other interactive posts
-Work with authors to link their social media to Thistledown’s, help them generate content for Thistledown’s social media, and use our social media accounts to promote and publicize author launches, readings, events, blogs, interviews, or other activities
-Update website, social media platforms, and send out press releases with all Thistledown related news (author events, award nominations/wins, interviews, reviews, etc)
-Work to increase exposure/views/followers/likes on all social media platforms
-Design materials for Thistledown promotions (catalogues, ARCs, Title Information sheets, postcards)
-Facilitate printing of promotional materials (poster, postcards, bookmarks) and their distribution by mail
-In collaboration with management, organize ad campaigns and design ads for print and web
-Pitch reviews of upcoming titles to magazines, publications; print and distribute ARCs
-Pitch upcoming titles to social media influencers on Instagram/Tiktok
-Pitch upcoming titles to local/national media (radio, TV)
-Organize and plan author events and tours at all phases (securing venues, securing booksellers, organizing event listings on website/social media, working with authors and organizers to promote event)
-Design promotional materials as required by event venues (posters, web assets)
-Create additional promotional content for publicity campaigns (book trailers, cover reveals)
-Maintain and update website/webstore with new products
-Pitch authors to local/relevant national festivals and facilitate pitch sessions
Skill and Qualifications:
-Passionate about publishing, authors, and all things literary -Engaged and curious; you love talking to authors, press, and partners about publishing
-Highly motivated self-starter with strong project management skills,
-Familiarity with Thistledown Press and Canadian writing and publishing is an asset
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Comfortable with all the major social media platforms
-Familiarity with and access to design software
-Adept with a camera and able to produce interesting, attractive, and appropriate visual content, using both still and video images
-Able to work independently, using own phone/camera/computer to create and post content, and to work in collaboration with management
