David Carpenter’s collection of essays I Never Met a Rattlesnake I Didn’t Like explores a city boy’s love of the wild, a passion that has enriched his life from boyhood. At 80, this irrepressible Saskatchewan raconteur examines his intense fascination with predators large and small, and his awe in the face of the variety of creatures that may be out to get us—or who are out to get one another.

David Carpenter is the author of more than a dozen books, including The Gold and Welcome to Canada. He has received several Saskatchewan Book Awards, including Book of the Year for the essay collection Courting Saskatchewan, as well as National and Western Magazine Awards for his magazine writing. He is an avid fly fisherman and nature-obsessed hiker and conservationist. He lives in Saskatoon.

Dave Margoshes is a Saskatoon-area poet and fiction writer. Most of his adult life has been in western Canada, for 35 years, in Saskatchewan. He has published twenty books of fiction, nonfiction and poetry. His work has appeared widely in Canadian literary magazines and anthologies. An active member of the literary community in Saskatchewan and beyond, he’s served on a number of boards, been writer-in-residence in Saskatoon and Winnipeg, been a mentor to a number of younger writers, and has served on several literary juries.
